murano is GLASS? is it fragile?
When you hear glass…you think…oh no this jewelry is fragile! This mouth-blown glass is not as fragile as it may appear. While Murano glass may look delicate, it is quite durable. Murano is heated to a high temperature and then it is cooled down making it stronger and more durable than regular glass. Murano Glass has withstood the test of time, techniques that have been passed down through generations.
Genuine Murano Glass is created by artisans on the Isle of Murano, near Venice. It is often referred to as Venetian Murano Glass.
What is Murano Glass?
Named for where centuries ago (the late 13th century) artisans began to make this stunning glass-the Isle of Murano, Venice Italy. There are many techniques that these master artisans use. It is then made into vases, beads, ornaments, and other beautiful gift items.
When Murano artisans make glassware by hand, they use various minerals to give colour to the glass. As the glass becomes heated, the minerals melt and give the transparent glass different colours, such as blue from cobalt, red from gold, green from iron or pink from manganese. In addition, artisans often use thin sheets of karat gold or sterling silver leaves that are added to the glass and create golden or silvery flecks inside the glass. This makes every piece of Murano unique–no two pieces are identical!
Gianna Seca Jewelry designs features Murano beads that are fused with real Karat yellow and white Gold foil (thin leafs of gold), Sterling Silver foil and mineral pigments. Some are fused with the gemstone Aventurine.

Caring for Murano Glass jewelry:
Avoid contact with chlorinated water and harsh chemicals. They can be washed with a mild soap or with a clean, very soft dry cloth. Store in a box when not being used in a cool, dry place. Always wipe Sterling Silver after wearing and store in a sealed plastic bag. Remove rubber stoppers from earrings as well ( rubber promotes tarnishing).
